Our lovely resident Bill Martin turned 100 last month – here’s how we celebrated at Crouched Friars

Our beloved resident, Bill Martin, turned 100-years old on 26th March 2023. We went all out to celebrate Bill on his special day.

Bill’s family, including his children and grandchildren came over to the home to spend the day with him. We decorated the home with lovely photos and memories from Bill’s long and happy life. We also got him golden ‘100’ balloons, a specially-designed delicious cake and cupcakes. 

Bill Martin received a royal letter from King Charles III and Camila, Queen Consort to commemorate the milestone. Bill was thrilled to receive the letter from the King and said it was a “huge honour”.

 

Paulina Eagle, our care home manager presented Bill with his letter. She was delighted to do the honours and fondly spoke about him saying: “Bill has been with us at Crouched Friars since 2021 and has been a lovely presence around the home, so full of life and chatty, everyone loves Bill around the home”.

We spent the day celebrating Bill, talking about his amazing life, and eating lots of cake. Bill was born in London and had many jobs throughout his lifetime. Before he retired, he was a security officer at a gas board. 

Bill has lived a long and fulfilling life, full of love and happiness. He enjoyed every moment of his wonderful life and recalled all the happy times fondly. Bill said that his biggest achievement is raising his two amazing sons as he spent some happy moments with his family.

We asked Bill what advice he has for others and he said, “Just carry on as usual and enjoy your life”.

Bill is a simple, peace-loving man and a great presence around the home. All of us at Crouched Friars love having him around. He loves reading the newspaper every morning and spending time with his friends at home. 

We wish Bill good health and happiness for this year and all the years to come. Happy 100th birthday, Bill!
